Ep194: David Scott

Today on the More Cheese Less Whiskers podcast, we're talking with David Scott from Maryland.

David's a personal trainer, he's been helping people for many years, and he has an audience he wants to serve of men in their 40's and 50's who are starting to, as he calls it, fend off father time.

We talked a lot about the needs of people in this area. He already has a lead magnet that's gathering leads for around $2, so we talked about how to treat that engagement, nurture the opt in, and try and engage with as many people as he can, to ultimately think through what is it we're ultimately going to be able to help these people with.

Once you crack the code of understanding the conversation, then you can scale it.

This is a great call to think through this exercise, and about the needs of one particular audience.

Ep193: Carlos Valdes

Today on the More Cheese Less Whiskers podcast, we're talking with Carlos Valdes from Portland Oregon, where he's a therapeutic therapist.

We had a great conversation about the results he's able to get with people faced with recovering from an injury or some mobility issue, and they want to get fit and back out into the world.

You can tell Carlos is very invested in the process and the outcomes his clients get when you hear him describe their big dreams of wanting to climb a mountain, get back to hiking or do the thing they love. It's a very fulfilling way of running a business.

It's a lifestyle business for him. He wants to continue doing what he loves with no plans to retire, so we brainstormed a great after unit strategy for orchestrating lifelong referrals.

You are really going to enjoy this episode, and you can join in as we talk about the psychology of why people refer by heading over to GettingReferrals.com and downloading a free report called 'The secret psychology of why people refer real estate agents and how to be the only one they refer.' And if you're in a business that's not real estate, don't worry, the psychology will apply in exactly the same way, no matter what your business is.

Ep191: Martin Planken

Today on the More Cheese Less Whiskers podcast, we're talking Martin Planken, all the way from The Netherlands.

This was a fun podcast. I first met Martin virtually when I was speaking at a conference in Amsterdam via zoom. We had a Q&A session, and Martin was one of the people who got up and asked a question.

He has a really neat model where he holds local photo contests in various Dutch cities, getting the Mayors and local leaders involved… It was such an interesting conversation, I told him it would be great to talk more on a More Cheese, Less Whiskers podcast.

So we arranged it, and here we are. I think you're going to really enjoy this episode.

Ep190: Chris Davis

Today on the More Cheese Less Whiskers podcast, we're talking with Chris Davis, and if you are a copywriter, web designer, any freelance practitioner, I think you're really going to enjoy this episode because it speaks directly to the situation you might find yourself in.

If you're a great freelancer, a great copywriter, a great web designer, and you're doing your work with clients, but every time you get a new client, you're creating original work and building a reputation with them, and there's no equity in that.

There's not a sense that you're building assets that deliver recurring revenue for you.

Whenever I have a conversation with a freelancer, with someone who's doing client work of any kind on a freelance, or agency or a consulting basis, the conversation inevitably turns to how can we create equity for you?

So this is one of those conversations, and if you are a skilled practitioner that can put words or images on a screen or on paper, or do something that creates revenue, creates value for other people, then we're just a couple of tweaks away from you being able to create assets that you can deploy with the goal of creating recurring revenue for you.

Ep189: Jeremy Salem

Today on the More Cheese Less Whiskers podcast, we're talking with Jeremy Salem from right here in Florida, up in Jacksonville.

Jeremy owns an agency that helps business owners with eCommerce and improves both their capabilities and the marketing of their businesses.

We had a great conversation about the distinction between the two ways of approaching the business. Between being a service provider to someone, improving their capability by doing work for them, and the possibility of thinking about delivering a result for people, which is always the next level of what you could provide for people.

It was a really fun conversation. The time went fast & there are a lot of ideas you can take to think about the way you see your business.

Ep188: Jonathan Slobom

Today on the More Cheese Less Whiskers podcast, we're going all the way across the pond to talk to Jonathan Slobom, and Jonathan has a unique situation in that he's a marketing consultant, working with what they call a business center in the UK.

The set up is similar to what we would call a coworking space or an office where lots of different businesses gathered together, and they provide supportive services to those organizations.

So we had a great conversation about the opportunities to really create something within their space, serving that business community. We talked about the Profit Activators, and how to be of service to the people they already have, and then, to create a unique opportunity by looking at what they have in terms of excess capacity they can redeploy.

There are some great ideas here, especially now, when people have capacity that can be used differently.

Ep187: Michael Barrett

Today on the More Cheese Less Whiskers podcast, we're talking with Michael Barrett from right here in Florida.

Michael is in a very interesting position that I think a lot of people find themselves in. He's taken the time to go through many different marketing courses, but he's struggling with that first step common to all of them. Deciding who your customers are.

So, we started out with a great conversation about how do you select a single target market and how do you choose your niche, but then turned to a conversation about why that's difficult for people. We talked about his Kolbe Index, Myers Briggs as a personality indicator, and it really came down to a conversation about understanding these baseline things, and what do you really want for your life? What is 'a perfect life' for you?

This is a really great perspective on the problem, and you're going to enjoy the conversation if you've ever wondered, is this really what I'm supposed to be doing here?

Ep186: Ryan Johnson

Today on the More Cheese Less Whiskers podcast, we're talking with Ryan Johnson from Arizona.

One of the things that we often run into is looking for unique vehicles to package up what we do.

Ryan is a comedian. He works with other comedians, and one of the neat things we explored here, is the possibility of creating a unique comedy tour in a way that most comedy tours don't exist.

Creating a new opportunity, a blue ocean strategy.

We have a lot of fun talking about the idea of creating something new and different, something you can control, and there are some great ideas here that you can use in your business.

Ep185: Doug Spurling

Today on the More Cheese Less Whiskers podcast, we're talking with Doug Spurling from Kennebunkport Maine. Yes, that Kennebunkport, the presidential, notorious compound of the Bush family.

It turns out Doug has some pretty great businesses going up there, including a personal training business, he coaches other people who own personal training businesses, and he has a budding hospitality consulting business. So he's got a lot going on.

We talked about this idea of using your business as the ’N of one study' for something you're going to duplicate. It's an ongoing theme I have: if you can create something you can document and then do again and again in syndication, you've got something pretty cool and scalable.

We had a great conversation, and there is a lot here for you to take away.
